#198 – Draeger’s Market – Los Altos & Menlo Park

It’s almost Labor Day weekend –and it’s beginning to feel a lot like… Summer?  The warm weather in the past ten days makes me feel like summer has ~finally~ come to Silicon Valley and it’s time for a picnic!  We cover a lot of great places for picnicking in Silicon Valley –and  many of our favorites are wineries.  But the prepared person comes with a plentiful picnic pack just ready to pair with that perfect Pinot.  Don’t you think?

For the impromptu picnic – one of my favorite places to shop is Draeger’s Market in Los Altos or Menlo Park.    First – and most important – cheese.   Draegers carries over 250 varieties of cheese – from American homestead cheeses to imported gooey artisanal  fromage with a nice French accent.   Add a crusty baguette, some olives from Draeger’s vast olive bar, some sliced salami, a few berries – and voila!   Your  picnic basket – actually masquerading as a Draeger’s grocery bag – is ready for the short trek to your favorite local winery.

Taste a wine or two,  buy a bottle of your favorite,  and plant yourself on the patio of your favorite winery for a leisurely picnic.  Enjoy your Silicon Valley summer!

#197 – Race to the End of Summer – San Jose

by Dawn Thomas on September 2, 2010

More healthy ideas for Labor Day weekend!   Chase away the Lazy Days of Summer with the “Race to the End of Summer” on Sunday September 5 at the Coyote Creek Trail in San Jose. I can hear groans from kids from around Silicon Valley – many of whom have been back to school for a week or more.

What person in their right mind would want to chase summer away?   Mom and Dad!  That’s who.  We all know it’s a race from now until the end of the year. Time to pump up your schedule, gear up your get fifitness goals, and hit the trails.

The organizers of “Race to the End of Summer 5k/10K” are partnering with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training.  Also, the race organizers have taken the “Go Green Pledge” in partnership with Active.com and Athletes for a Fit Planet, and are committed to doing their part to keep the community healthy.   See you on the trails!
